Leighton house

Leighton house is the former home of artist Frederic Lord Leighton. The house was embellished as Leightons wealth and status grew. It became famous for the collections of his paintings and decorative arts. Each room has distinct decorative collections.

The indienne fabrics were usually used in servants quarters, this shows Leightons relaxed manner as the fabric was used to cover the chairs in the drawing room.

Leightons ceramics collection came from Turkey. Many of the tiles were designed by William de Morgan of Islamic influence.

Frederick constantly sketched on his travels and by 1877 there was a major extension as he had travelled to Turkey, Egypt and Syria and developed a deep appreciation of Islamic design and architecture.

Visiting the house was very inspiring as its a beautiful example of an eclectic and ethnic interior. It is a perfect example of interiors that would really compliment my bright designs.
