These are the 2 designer makers that influenced me the most at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft fair.
Amanda Adamson
I love the bright colours and patterns used in the mosaics, its inspired me as both the mosaics, bright colours and patterns all together create the cultural image.
Amanda Anderson is a West Midlands based mosaic maker who originally studied Fine Art at Liverpool’s John Moores University.
Although she has worked with mosaic for many years on large scale public commissions (see Wigwam Arts), it is only recently that she has concentrated on making smaller pieces for sale and exhibition.
Her work is influenced by a variety of folk art and traditional stories which involve animals, birds, metamorphosis and transformation.
A predominant use of stained glass gives the mosaics a bright and seductive quality with patterned ceramics adding a lyrical vibrancy.
Charlotte Nash
The bright colours and geometric shapes give a cultural element, the techniques she uses to create these pieces inspire me for embroidery pieces.
Hand crafted textile designs for interiors. Combining modern techniques, such as laser cutting, with the ancient arts of braiding and crochet, reviving techniques to give traditional interior furnishings a contemporary finish: allowing my final designs to reflect the time, effort and passion that have gone into their making.
