Visiting the Harris museum in Preston today was a great oppurtunity to see all the ceramics that have been made both in Britain and China to compare the both as British designs were often imitations. This was good for both modules as its proof that orientalism came into Britain's ceramics from sources of inspiration like Chineses settings. The patterns on the ceramics used blue and white chintz, some designs were in brighter colours.
Chintz porcelain plates
Made in China 1750
The original Chinese designs use detailed Chinese scenery. Porcelain allows smooth finish and fine details
Tin glazed pots
Made in Bristol around 1650-1700
British replicas were created by tin glazing pottery as the British had not mastered the art of porcelain yet.
The effect is not as smooth and shiny.
