Ideal wallpaper design

I have entered the Ideal Wallpaper design of the year competition with wallpapered.com. There will be 5 finalists that get chosen and then the winner will be decided by an online vote. The design had to be sent in exact repeat ready to be printed. When I looked at the designs on wallpapered.com, a lot of them are quite simple, so I tried to tailor my design around their style. However I found this design in the designers section they have that are freelancers designs and found it suits my work quite well. There is a lot of pink in this design but it works well. It is not as complicated as it looks as it is a straight repeat.

For my design I have decided to use my floral motifs as I think this would best suit a commercial wallpaper. I have used a blossom tree as a starting point and added exotic flower paintings to make it less obvious. At the creative stitches show I saw this knitted garden and was inspired by the blossoms.

The blossoms really look different and textured and i like the difference in shading of pinks.

These blossoms are done by japanese embroidery. The silk thread creates a shiny and 3D effect which is totally different to the knitted version.

I have taken pictures of blossom trees for myself to draw from at a outdoor artistic display of a japanese garden at the V&A in london. Here is my final design for the wallpaper I submitted into the competition . I have used several flower paintings and created a unique blossom tree to be repeated into a wallpaper design. I tried to use similar colours for it to suit a simple colour palette.
