19th Century artists began making artwork relevant to everyday life, which meant artwork went into garment prints, incorporating 2 design disciplines together.
Roul Dufy, Sonia Delauney and William Morris were the first artists to begin this.

Salvador Dali created a number of prints for Wesley Simpson in the 1940s.
Henry Moore worked for Ascher in the 1940s.
During the 1940s designers were fighting for the existance because of the war, so art was combined with textiles.
Horricks fashions commisioned painters to supply textile designs. Tullis was one designer that designed dresses for the Queens coronation. The popular summer dresses became worn by all.
Illustration began being applied to textiles in America in the 1950s.
Popular Illustrators were by Piazza prints and Patterson fabrics.
Steinberg was commisioned to translate Illustration to textiles and wallpaper.
