For my patchwork style collection, I intend to cover a chair in a patchwork style print that will be digitally printed to save the time of actually patchworking a large peice of fabric tp upholster a chair. This idea as developed from last semesters textile sample I created from a design sheet.
Here is the design sheet on the left and the hand embroidered sample interpreted from the painting last semester. This was my favourite textile sample from last semester, however it had taken too much time to embroider this small sample so I have decided to make a digital print out of it.
These are some patchwork chair styles I have researched. I have contacted upholstery companies and this chair style seams to be the cheapest to upholster at about £120 providing my fabric also.
Old Patterned tiling like this has inspired me to use bright colours and and a mixture of colours and patterns.
This large arm chair would be a beautiful way to show as much of the fabric as possible, however these chairs are very expensive to cover. I love the bright colours and different square patches, however most people can do this at home and get scraps of beautiful fabric, so I wanted to make my patchwork different to the square shape.
Here are my fabric designs. I have used a tiling system that appears like tiling or patchwork. I have used the shapes from last semester design sheet but also added more painted patches this semester and incorporated the both to create a larger area to repeat. I have tried different colour ways to see which would suit an interiors range more.
I could also look into how much these style chairs would be to upholster because I have found that the less material there is to cover, the cheaper it is and that grand style dining chair could look very contemporary with my print.
This is an another patchwork style design I have painted this semester that I can digitally print to embroider selected parts that can be embellished. I think this would be a compliment as a cushion design to go with the chair fabric.
